Nakamura Gakuen was founded in 1954 by Professor Haru Nakamura at her own expense. “Character is the foundation of human beings, it is above the relative merits of intellectual and scholar qualities or anything” was her creed of education. She was 69 years old when she inaugurated this challenge. In the era of change brought about by Japan’s postwar period of rapid economic growth, she advocated the principle of human-centered education as a priority.
Professor Nakamura passed away in 1971 at the age of 87 years. Throughout her long life, she maintained a burning passion for education and culinary research, with over 70 years as an educator and 50 years as a researcher.
Heart-to-heart bonds based on mutual respect are what bring us together as people, and it is this notion which continues to form the foundations of our educational programs.
